When I look at Palin, I'm actually projecting some of my good feelings about Horny women in Navarro, TX my own governor onto her, I recognize that. But the office of President more resembles that of Governor than just about anything (-, Reagen, Bush2, all governors) and having gotten elected and served as a governor is actually a good vetting process. Her family was involved in small business, and identifies with that. She served as mayor, so she has had to hear the complaints of average people and businesses. Like any other city in the country or any other state, I'm sure they've had their own mini-crises that didn't make national headlines, and the press is focusing on the firing of a relative (I'm guessing this is where you shaped your opinion that she's petty and vindictive, but did you read much on the circumstances of this? Guy deserved it.) and a congressional earmark? I can appreciate the hypocrisy of being against earmarks while taking them, but everyone in Congress is out for their own best interests (and their constituents) and plays by current rules. It's no different than everyone -'s representatives getting them an earmark, and their governor spending it. It happens everywhere that funds cited for one purpose get reappropriated to another ("Casinos For Education" here became "Casinos For Education/Luring Businesses/Downtown Renovations/Public Transportation/Levee Upgrades"). I think my own governor is more qualified than she is to speak to the press, because he doesn't gaffe as badly as she does, and it was exciting to know that he made McCain's short list (I don't believe he was picked b/c McCain is getting La anyways, picking him wouldn't have gotten him any more votes than he was already getting). But I don't think Palin's decision-making skills are flawed, and I think she's demonstrated that she can run an administration. I do wish McCain would have picked someone that's not so polarizing, but I understand the tactic. I think it blew up in his face, or at the minimum, didn't have the intended effect. But once she's up to speed on foreign policy (something she should just outright admit she's novice on) and the greater world view, I think she'll do okay.
